New main jet without a power kit?

    by jtcohenour » Fri May 18, 2007 11:56 am

Is it a bad idea to install a new #132 main jet without a power up kit? I have stock exhaust with the baffle removed, and a stock air filter with the snorkel removed.

on my 2001 xr250r i changed the pilot jet only to like a 142 but it had no packing in the stock exaust and it made a night a day difference in throttle response and bottom end power. you might just have to play with a couple jets to find out what is to much with stock parts, but yes you can get some performance by just changing the pilot and main jets if you are broke like me and cannot spoil yourself 6 aftermarket kits a month like most riders nowadays

Thanks for the tip. I am going to have to try a few. I would love aftermarket exhaust but just can't afford to part with the money to but it right now.

A 120 main and a 45 pilot jet will work great with what you have. \:D/

So you think a 120 main would work better than a 132 with my setup?

should I wait to do the main jet until I can afford to do the power up kit also? Will doing the main jet alone damage the bike?

no , all you are doing is giving it a little more fuel.

Istopped by the honda dealership today and picked up a #120 round main jet. I will install it ASAP and let you know how it runs.

What a surprise. I pulled the "old" jet off this evening and to my surprise the bike already had a #132 installed. I just went ahead and re-installed it because the bike is running great with it. I wish I knew if the previous owner installed the powerup kit also. Does anyone know a surefire way to tell if its installed?

The jet is definately a #132 I wonder if when the previous owner installed the new jet if he also installed the power up kit.

I think at this point you would have to pull the needle to know for sure.

Is there something specific stamped on it that would signify that it was the upgraded needle?
