    Drain gas

    by jeranamo » Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:52 pm

I didn't put stabil in my tank before winter hit. I'm just wondering what I need to do to drain the gas from the tank and carb when it gets warm again.

Hey, the gas went bad in my sons 230 within a couple of months if that. I would definately shut gas off, and drain carb bowl now. I found that the only way to get all the gas out of the tank was to remove the tank. I did that too, then when he rode again, I filled with premium and all was well.

Drain tank, reserve should get enough out. Drain Float bowl on carb, inspect pilot jet for resin/goop/. Spray quality carb cleaner into carb gas intake with float bowl on and let soak for a day, drain again. Add fresh gas. BTW AV gas stays good for months and months, another option at winter time.

Thanks for the information. But nminus1, what do you mean "reserve should get enough out". How do I drain the float bowl? Do I do this before I remove the tank?

There is a screw on the right side of the float bowl, no need to take it all the way out just open it a turn or two to drain the bowl.

You dont need to remove the tank, just pull the fuel line off the carb and drain the old gas out with the petcock in the reserve position. Then drain carb and follow the other steps I gave you. DO NOT reuse the old gas.

How old is the gas in there? Will she start? If the gas isn't too old put sta-bil in now and run her. Or, if she will run, shut the gas off and run the carb dry. I go out and start my baby up every two weeks just to shake the dew off her lily.
