Stock pipe or after market pipe

    by Old-Man » Mon Dec 25, 2006 2:31 pm

Has anyone change out your stock pipe with a after market pipe? If so did it open the bike up much, or am I better off just taking the baffel out of the stock pipe?

I wish that the Giant machine had made the trip with me... I have the PowerBomb header and the Yosh can... it really opens things up! I feel like it revs faster and makes more power across the range, especially on top. With my Stage 1 cam that will soon be installed, I should have quite the rocket (Too bad my poor steed has to haul so much!).

    Hey Old Man -

My wife's 230 has the baffle removed. It sounds quite throaty -- just ask XGiant!

I have the ProCircuit T-4 on my 450X and it made quite a difference. I've considered one for the 230, but can't justify it, as my wife's pretty happy with it as it is. In fact, she thinks it's too loud, so we may replace the baffle and see just how much grunt it looses, and if it's worth the reduction in noise.

We will be hauling both bikes with us when were in So Cal in late January. You're welcome to meet up with us when we visit ~/Progirz and check 'em both out, if you'd like.

    Hey Old Man,

when we built .'s 230 we put on a White Bros R4 Stainless exhaust. Opened it up a lot! Deep throaty sound. Has a sparky too.

Drawback was no heat shield. Had to fab up some custom clamps to put stock heat shield on it.

Check with nminus1, maybe you can hook up with him to see it.

The stock exhaust is actually pretty good for performance and sound.

An aftermarket exhaust excels in two specific areas:

    1) Reducing weight over stocker (+/- 2lbs lighter depending on pipepurchased)

    2) Performance enhancement on massaged/built motors, however you better know the pipe designs or you'll go backwards rather than forward.

    Hey Old Man
Every time I read that (your screen name) it reminds me of the Cheech and Chong bit where the red freak and Pedro are trying to get some help pushin La BomBa and they see the old guy. Pedro hollers " Hey Old Man"
Anyway..... I have the Carmichael Honda Motorsports pipe on my sons 230. Along with the rev box, opened air box and Power-up kit there is a big difference in performance. Instigator rode it a while back and he was impressed. It sounds great and is USFS approvrd. No heat shield though.
