    Taskers Gap-VA-VIDEO

    by ImhurdlerJr » Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:21 pm

My roommate just picked up a Yamaha Wolverine 450 quad. I finally have someone to hit the trails with. I have had the 230 for over a year and have only riden in some fields by my house.

So we loaded up the toys and made the 70 mile trek to Taskers Gap in Edinburg VA. http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/lee/maps/ohv_brochure.shtml

What a great time. This is why I bought the CRF. But I deff need to get an aftermarket skid plate and some bark busters. There were some seriously rocky trials.

It was a bit freaky because there were about a billion hunters out and about. Gave us a little un-easy feeling. But we were fairly confident that we wouldnt be taken for a Buck running through the woods.

Anyway, I got over 3 hours of footage. Here is 10 min of it. This is one one the ATV Difficult trials. Sorry for the quality, but this is the only way it didnt look choppy when streaming.

    Thanks,
    Dusty

So what? It ain't always about speed!

Nice vid, man! Those rocks looked pretty groovy. We don't have stuff like that around here. Nice work!

Nice vid. I've been wanting to check out Taskers/Potters Mill. My buddies and I went to Rocky Run on the other side of Harrisonburg a few months ago. It was great on the fire road, but the ATV trail was pure hell. Couldn't wait to get out of that hole. Your video looks rocky, but not too much vertical with the bulk of the rocks. Is that right?

That was the rated the hardest trail there. The rest of it wasnt nearly as bad as that. I have over 3 hours of video. Ill try and put together a few clips from differnt parts to show you what it's like.

Me and 2 buddies are heading up there on the 23rd. Ill probably get some more footage then.

I agree with all of the posters that that is an excellent video-someday I would like to get a helmet cam to document some of the local rides.

That is some serious rock riding, how did you like the stock tires performance?

Also, I noticed at 4:45 in the video that there is a white "V" on one of the trees. Is that a trail marker?
    Just curious.

Yeah the "V" just mark the trail. The color indicates the trail difficulty.

The 230f if my first and only dirt bike. I have nothing to compare the stock tires to. But they seemed to do well on the rocks. I feel like the front end wants to wash out on me in dirt though.

I may swap out the front and see if there is a big difference.

You will notice a huge difference! The stock Brazilian Pirelli is the biggest POS tire made. Anything short of Dog Poop in a paper sack would be better.

    Agent S

You could have opted for the "Snap on" advise used in a previous mail.( Heli coil!!!)

But i am sure "POS" describes that its REALLY crap!

...I prefer my Dog Poop in a "plastic" sack, double bagged, double knotted etc.

I have heard that the Pirellis don't hold up, but most of my riding has been done in soft or hard sand in the desert, no real rock/trail riding, so I don't think I have really put them to the test yet.....I am looking at upgrading to the Maxxis product, have heard good things about them with respect to performance and traction in sand and hardpack.

Great video Dusty, it is nice to see how they ride on the "right coast." ;)
