I spent almost 2 hours last night scouring the net for information on the PD carb. There is nothing I can find. On Keihin carburetors sight it is not addressed or any of the suppliers. I have an e-mail into Sudco (a big US distributor for Keihin) asking for information on the 28mm PD carb and a list of needles available with an OEM cross-reference to Keihin needle descriptions. I’ll let everyone know if they get back to me.

Sudco got back to me today and gave me a contact inside keihin. Apparently they do not nor does anyone else they are aware of resell PD carbs or parts other than jets. They suggested it may be proprietary to Honda.
Hopefully Keihin will get back to me so we can understand these needles better.

So I've mentioned this before, but if you live at altitudes over 3,000ft, the higher performance needles don't buy you very much, especially on the 230F.

We just dropped the clip to the 4th position on the stock needle and it works great up to 8,000ft.

Why is that KRCFS? The change in atmospheric pressure? I ride at 200 to 300 feet so I give little thought to you higher riders.


Well it’s official. No information in regards to Honda PD carburetors or carburetor parts can or will be given out buy the carburetor manufacturer Keihin. They are bound buy confidentiality agreements.
I have been trying to find an e-mail address for anyone at Honda USA or Canada. Everything leads back to the recommended contact your local dealer.
This is like pulling teeth!

I did notice that there is a parts catalog…
Anyone have one of these for the 230?
I wonder if needle specs would be in there?

Well, it isn't that they won't work, I just find that the taper on these types of needles emphasizes a richer mixture. So, you end up moving the clip up to like the 2nd position.

Is there a real difference between a custom needle at the 2nd clip versus the stock needle at the 4th clip position? Boy, I can't tell them apart.

BTW, we jetted our 660 Raptors with GYTR needles, at the 3rd clip position, gave our stockers to a friend who set them at the 5th position, and his Raptor runs just a tad better than ours.

I just can't see spending the money.

I could answer that question if I could get any information from Keihin the Keihin dealers or Honda. However I have been unsuccessful to date. Without real data I’d be spewing bull crap.

In “generalâ€￾ you are correct that the clip position has the greatest effect on that entire 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range to determine if it’s leaner or richer. Once this is set however the taper angle will move the lean/rich inside that needle range depending on how you want it to respond.

For me it’s all fun. I enjoy tinkering and learning. I’m new to this carb and 4 strokes in general so the last couple of months have been a hoot with so much to read and lean about this bike. It’s a good thing as I can’t ride now until spring and this helps keep me out of trouble…

I'm sorry to here you can't ride in the Winter in Ontario. It's Kathy's birthday today, so once the Thanksgiving crew is safely on the highway home, we are going to the desert for a birthdy ride on our Honda's. It'll be cold, but hey, any ride is better than no ride at all!

Well, it was 33 degrees on Sunday before wind chill. I figure it was about 10 - 12 degrees with wind chill. We lasted for 20 miles before we were ready to call it a day.

Just another follow up on the “full power partsâ€￾ in the pursuit of detailed information from Honda.
I wrote to Rick Sieman last year at off-road.com the author of the 230F project bike articles.
Unfortunately he did not have a copy of this TSB either.

I have been digging for information on this at my Honda dealer and on the net. All I have come up with is a reference to a TSB number 110102 dated 11/1/2002 titled FULL POWER PARTS. HONDA NEWSLETTER.
Do you have the actual text from Honda? A PDF maybe? If so would/could you send me a copy?

I don't have the copy from Honda, but the Full Power kit has been around and sold by Honda dealers since 2003.

Yes, Please could someone post the actual Honda newsletter with the info on the full power parts ?, every dealer I ask about it has no clue, so most of us will need a copy of the actual newsletter to prove to them it exsists.

Oh and I did not pay to read it. My dealer had it but would not copy it for me.
It is available online in a technical service bulletin that you have to become a member to view.

If you want to read it you will have to pay. I have already at the dealer.

I got a copy from the shop guys at a local dealer, they had it printed out already I just asked for a copy.
