I'm in the same boat. I just bought a very sligthly used non-modded CRF230 and with me being an engineer, I love to do mods. I haven't even ridden the bike enough to know what a shock difference would feel like but I'm wondering what avenue I should take with the CRF230: 1) Do all of the cheap mods to my CRF230 and get a 250X in 6 months to a year or 2) throw money at my CRF230 to do the expensive mods to make it a better bike?

I wil never mx race (but I'm sure I will want to ride on a track sometime!) so I should probably just make the cheap powerup mods and tweak the suspension with oil / washers for now, and then sell the bike later and upgrade to a CRF250X sometime. I am a beginner and the CRF230 is a beginner's bike...I guess since I bought this bike used, its not going to hurt me much to sell it later and get a better bike down the road. Most riders seemed to have owned many different bikes anyway.

I also had a 230. Spent a bunch of money on mods. I just bought a 250X. I love it! I'm 44 and 5'5". You won't regret it. Honda is Fire Sailing 06 250X. Now is the time to buy!
