I have an 02 crf450. The clutch won't completely disengage when I pull in the lever. Basically my bike won't idle when the clutch is pulled in. I have put it up on a stand and clicked down into first gear and the back tire starts spinning pretty fast. Is there something wrong with the clutch or maybe just the clutch cable?

What should I be looking for to see if it needs replacement?
What are fibres? Would I need new springs too?

look for burnt or warped steel plates, sharp groves in the basket, and dead looking fibre clutch plates.

if the basket is good you can get away with buying a clutch kit which will have all the clutch plates, steels and fibres and new springs

So took apart the clutch and checked things out. All the plates look good. I did notice some grooves in both the outer basket and the inner hub, not too bad though.

I did notice a bigger problem though. When I pull in the lever the pressure plate does not completely push away from the plates. Only half of it does. What could be causing this?
