Does anyone know if the tanks are interchangeable? I do short loops and it would be nice to have a slimmer profile.

I believe that they are. You have to switch the mounting brackets on the tank.

Yes you can use the R tank on the X. You will need to either use the front mounting bracket from the X tank on the R tank or you can use the R tank and R bracket and drill and tap your frame in the correct location. The holes in the frame are located differently on the X and R frames. I have an inexpensive R tank for sale in the for sale forum on this site, P M me if you're interested.

You have to trim the X seat foam and use an R seat cover to finish it off. The slimmer midsection is nice.

Are you trying to change the look, or save weight, or both? If you are just trying to save weight, why not just put less gas in it?
