It's not as bad as the press makes it out to be. Yes Baja can be a dangerous place, but so can this side of the boarder. For the most part the people who have been killed have been involved in drugs and/or gun running. The kidnappings are of rich locals. I don't fall into either group. I dont feel any less safe in Baja than I do here. As a general rule; Stay out of the boarder cities, just pass through. Don't travel at night. Stay off the free road, take the toll,(scenic),road. It's safer, faster, and kept up better. don't go to the famous/infamous bars and get drunk, they are watching you and you will find trouble. Mind you're own buisness, don't be too curious. Be friendly and polite, it's their country and we are guests. If you show courtesy and are friendly you will be treated like family.
I have had some of the most amazing experiences of my life in Mexico and I can't wait to get back. |

Just a few weeks ago we were part of a very big Baja ride group - about 63 riders / 73 total group (support and such). It was called the Baja Beach Bash - info about it on a few boards (including that other site that doesn't like AgentSmith, but we still love ya AS!).
We did 3 nights in Baja starting and finishing in/near Ensenada and rode Pacific Coast for 3 days.
Not a single person got pulled over, nobody got Swine Flu, no shootings, fun fun had by all.
On top of that about 6 of us spent 8 days down there prepping for the ride. No troubles. Oh, and every border crossing, by everyone, was made thru TJ except for the Sunday post-ride was thru Tecate (to avoid the long TJ line).
Then a few days post-ride my wife, 9 year old son, and I went back down to tie up some loose ends from the ride. In 2 days I rode the Beach Bash route Solo while my wife & son drove the big Chevy to meeting spots.
Our son even drove about 30 of the miles....
No worries, another great time in Baja!
The kid driving the crewcab in Baja...
Oh, and the Old Mill hotel tells me a couple weeks after our giant group there was a group of 50+ bikers and a friend is part of a group of about 28 riders next week. So, people are still going to Baja.
While business has sucked for us this past year, we've noticed (especially at the Baja 1000/500) the Baja locals are more appreciative to us off-roaders being there than they'd been say 5 years ago. They want the dollars. _________________ Tim Morton |

And that, my friends, is the ONLY way I'd feel comfortable going riding in Baja.
Being part of a BajaBoundMoto tour lead by Tim Morton. Not only do they have the local contacts and experience south of the border, they know the fun trails and the super secret single track out there.
They take care of everything...and that's the way to go.
Thanks for chiming in...
P.S. Somebody out there doesn't like me...really?? LMAO _________________ "Make a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day.

OUCH Tim!!! If they are so lame why do you have 1,633 posts.
One of my buddies did a trip with you and loved it. I've heard nothing but good things about your trips. Maybe one year we will have to plan a trip with you guys.
As for it being safe I don't think Tim would take his family if he didn't think it was safe. I sure wouldn't take mine if it wasn't safe. We are doing a week trip with the family next year. Lots of riding, a day of fishing, and having a fish taco or two.
I can't wait. _________________ Old-Man

You're right, I changed the wording.
Just trying to show Agent and PG some love, that some of us are on their side. _________________ Tim Morton |
