2017 crf 450 fuel pump instillation

    by Tunster » Thu Jul 25, 2019 11:12 pm

I’ve just replaced the fuel filter but when I reassemble the pump the seal around the tank is weeping. Should the o ring gasket be flush upto the plate? In the picture it’s between the two black parts. Should it be further down?

Thanks jimdirt I’ve sorted it now and got it to seal.unfortunately that wasn’t the problem. The bike bogs and stalls on a low blip of the throttle. Any ideas where I should be looking?

Yea , try turning up the idle a bit , these new CRF's do not like low idle , if it was set too low from factory , that might solve the issue ..... , so turn it up a bit , test , then repeat a couple times , see if it gets better each time , if so , then that was it .... you also may go to Honda and buy 1 single clutch disk and remove the Judder Spring setup , it is notorious for causing low speed stalling , basically you will remove the judder spring and plate and disk (3 parts) and replace it with just a regular disk (the parts guys at the dealer should know about this and give you the correct part) , doing both those things "should" eliminate your issues ..... Report back with findings ..... [-oo 8-[ ;)

Ok so here’s where I’m at.
Fuel pump all good plenty of pressure.
Valve shims checked and spot on.
    Injector cleaned out .
So I was talking to a friend yesterday and he suggested a new plug as he says the plugs only seem to last around 25 hours then produce the symptoms I’m having. So hopefully my pal at the dealership will have my new plug in tomorrow so I can try it.
I will let you know the outcome. Fingers crossed.

I would think you should get more than 25 hours from a plug , heck , I get a season or more out of them with no issues , though mine is not EFI , so not as temperamental .... Hope it helps ..... sucks having issues like that , I am getting closer to pulling the trigger on maybe a 19 , so it helps to find any idiosyncrasies with the new gen bikes by posts like yours ...... hopefully it works with the plug swap and you will be going good again .....

It was the plug after all. My mate was right,so my advise to you all is buy a spare plug it can save you a whole load of time and money.
An amateur mistake on my part really. I always used to have a spare plug on the 2 strokes . After 35 years you would think I would have known :D

Good to know .... What plug is it ??? , the earlier years use the NGK IFR8H11 Iridium , and I do not think I have ever had one of those go bad on me , just have had them in so long that the electrode just wears down , so that is why they get replaced , but no failure/fouling that I can recall ..... :-k
