    Twin Air Powerflow vs Dual Stage questions..

    by Codeman00 » Wed Nov 03, 2010 6:33 pm

    I have a Twin Air Powerflow Kit for my bike (with the cage). I need to order some replacement Twin Air filters. After looking at the store, I realize that there are two different kind of filters....the Powerflow filter which has a black inside and more mounting holes...and then a dual stage which has an orange inside with only one mounting hole. I actually have both of these types at the house right now.

    What is the difference in the filters? Why two types?
    Why does the Powerflow not have the three mounting holes?
    Can either filter be used with the powerflow cage?

    Why is there a dual stage filter listed for the 250R in the catalog, but not for the 250X?

    The filter with the black back side is fire retardant. The Orange back side is not.

    I guess it doesn't make any difference then which one I use.

    Ken, why is there a 250R un-oiled dual filter http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... cts_id/238

    ...but not one for the 250X?

    This is the replacement for the Powerflow kit.
    REPLACEMENT FILTER :: CRF250 04-09 /450 03-08. FOR POWERFLOW KIT #150210C

    Don't use the dual stage it isn't a backfire type filter. The 04-09 250 R and X use the same filters.

    If the non-backfire style filter is not to be used and is unsafe, then how can Twin Air sell the product? Some online stores don't even carry the non-backfire style filter.

    The dual foam is designed to be used with the stock backfire screen in place. The backfire filter can be used with the screen removed from the stock cage, or in your case the Powerflow kit doesn't have a backfire screen and requires the correct backfire filter to be used with it.
    Or you can take the chance of your bike going up in flames.

    Thanks for the info. That's information that should be readily available but I wasn't able to find it anywhere. Hopefully I can change my order with Ken before the other filter ships.

    Wow...great customer service with Ken. He explained that there are actually three different Twin Air filters for the 250X. After a detailed explaination, he made everything right and changed my order to the correct filter over the phone. He still shipped my order out the same day. Thanks Ken.

    And thanks motosicko for pointing out the difference in the filters. It should be on Twin Air's website, don't you think?
