    02 CRF450R rebuild

    by blasta_15gbs » Sun Oct 29, 2017 2:37 pm

Hello. I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I have a 2002 CRF450R, and it threw a rod out the front of the crankcase. I found an 2004 crankcase. Will that mount up to the top end of the engine and cylinder, and will it mount to the frame right?
    Thanks,Blake

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

As far as i know , the 02-04 bottom end should be a direct bolt in , though they changed part numbers the actual mount locations and size should be the same , 05-08 would be different mounting widths and would not fit without machining parts and altering mounts

you might PM (Private Message) Ken , the owner here , as he could verify for sure if the parts interchange without alteration

Ok thanks! My only concern is the bottom end i found has clutch issues! :?: Would it just need a simple clutch kit, or would it need cables and everything?
    Thanks, Blake

Clutch itself should be the same 02-08 , the difference is where the cable mount is , in relation to the clutch actuator on the ignition side of the engine , the "clutch issue" could be just worn plates or springs , or the basket itself could be grooved since you did not specify the actual issues , but as far as parts go , you should be able to use parts from either the 02 or 04 to make it work , as far as i can remember .... 05 and later had the cable coming across from the clutch side of the engine so the actuator is in a different position and a 05 or later cable would need to be used if the cases were newer , but i believe 02-04 use the same bracket and cable , some parts are 02 specific , and 03-04 are the same (subframe , exhaust , forks , swingarm linkage , etc..)

You are setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment.
I would sell the parts from that bike and buy a running one for $1500. Get away from the '02 with the goofy airbox.
